Hope 4 Success

HOPE for Success is a series of workshops aimed at helping ease the transition from high school to university. This encompasses workshops about the university application process, creating effective worklists, and developing essential skills for first-year students. As part of our mentorship program, we also pair each student with a mentor who is currently a university student in a unique longitudinal structure. This provides the university student body with an opportunity to develop leadership skills and pay it forward to benefit students whose shoes they were once in, as well as a support system for graduating mentees.

Mentee

The HOPE Mentorship Program is for prospective UCalgary students like yourself, from any faculty who are paired with a current UCalgary student to receive one-on-one mentoring throughout your transition to university. This includes helping through the application process, registering for your courses, getting around the university, as well as general tips for succeeding in university. Through mentorship, students are encouraged to ask questions and connect with their mentor as often as needed, to help mentees feel prepared for the transition to university.

Ambassador

The HOPE Ambassador Program is an exciting and unique way for high school students to contribute to their school community while gaining leadership and volunteer experience. As an Ambassador for HOPE, you will have the opportunity to create a school club that will serve as a platform for you to design and carry out personal passion projects to create awareness for social issues and fundraise for HOPE under the guidance of a trained mentor. This will not only allow you to set and achieve professional development goals but also give you access to all of our workshops and resources.

Mentor

As a mentor, your main role will be to provide one-on-one mentoring to your mentee(s). This includes answering questions regarding their UofC application, helping review their personal profile, as well as answering any general questions mentee(s) may have regarding university life. You will also be assigned to a Mentor Recruiter and Organizer, who will maintain contact with you to keep you updated with important dates and deadlines. They will also facilitate a training session for you so that you feel supported and prepared throughout the process. As you agree to be mentors, you are also a representative and a member of UofC HOPE, and it is important that everyone upholds the values and standards that are important to the club. This includes staying committed to reaching out to students to support and empower them.
